PH posts 192 new COVID-19 cases; active now at 2,440

MANILA, Philippines — An additional 192 individuals contracted COVID-19 on Wednesday, as shown in the Department of Health’s (DOH) COVID-19 Tracker, with active cases now at 2,440.

This brought the country’s total COVID-19 caseload to 3,692,084 nationwide, with 3,629,118 recoveries and 60,456 deaths.

The new cases are higher than the 185 average number of daily infections recorded from May 30 to June 5. based on a total of 1,295. They are also higher than Tuesday’s 168 recorded infections.

FEATURED STORIES

In the last 14 days, Metro Manila has recorded the most number of cases at 1,191, followed by Calabarzon at 375 and Central Luzon at 217.

In Metro Manila, Quezon City leads with the most reported cases at 203, followed by Makati at 174 and Manila at 160.

The DOH has noted that infections have been slightly increasing over the past few weeks, which some experts attributed to neglected health standards.

The DOH had also previously announced that it had detected local transmission of both the BA.2.12.1. and the BA.5. — both of which health experts fear to be highly transmissible and can even evade vaccine protection.
