Negros health workers to get P25 for each new vax taker

BACOLOD CITY, Negros Occidental, Philippines — To further speed up the COVID-19 vaccination drive in Negros Occidental, incentives will be given to barangay health workers (BHWs) in the province who can convince their fellow Negrenses to get fully vaccinated against COVID-19.

Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson said BHWs would be given P25 for every individual they managed to persuade to get inoculated against the dreaded virus.

“We’re still very dependent on the local government units, especially the barangay health workers, to convince people in their respective communities to get vaccinated,” he said.

Five kilos of rice will also be given to those who will be fully vaccinated during the inoculation drive.

The mass vaccination will be conducted on Thursdays and Fridays in the first three weeks of June, and on Monday and Tuesday in the fourth week of the month.

At present, Negros Occidental has fully vaccinated 63.61 percent of its target population, and 58.97 percent of its target senior citizens.

The province aims to vaccinate 666,363 residents against COVID-19 this month to hit 100 percent of its target population.

Dr. Ernell Tumimbang, provincial health officer, said hitting 100 percent of their target also means deescalating the alert levels of more local governments in the province, many of which were still under alert level 2.
