Truck kills 1, hurts 10 in Cavite

11:22 PM June 18, 2011

A wayward 22-wheel trailer truck loaded with sand rammed into four vehicles, killing a bystander and injuring 10 others in Alfonso, Cavite, on Friday, police said Saturday.

Chief Insp. Egbert Tibayan, Alfonso police chief, said by phone the injured were all helpers of the trailer truck. They were all in serious condition and brought to the Dr. Rodolfo Poblete Memorial Hospital, also in Alfonso, he said.

The truck was believed to have lost its brakes and careened on a downhill portion of the area, rammed into four cars parked on the right side of the road and hit a bystander, whose name was still unavailable, before finally stopping when it smashed into a house. Police are holding the driver of the truck. Maricar Cinco, Inquirer Southern Luzon
