Pagasa: LPA expected to enter PAR on Sunday; cloudy skies, rain showers expected

MANILA, Philippines — A low pressure area (LPA) off Mindanao is expected to enter the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) on Sunday, according to he Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).

The LPA, which was last spotted at 1,075 kilometers east southeast of Mindanao, has a slim chance of intensifying into a tropical cyclone.

“Meron din po tayong binabantayan ngayon na isang low pressure area. Sa kasalukuyan, ito po ay nasa labas pa po ng ating PAR,” Pagasa weather specialist Samuel Duran said in a public weather forecast.

“Itong low pressure area sa ngayon po ay mababa ang tsansa na maging ganap na bagyo at inaasahan po nating papasok ng PAR ngayong araw at maari din po itong lumapit dito po sa may eastern section ng Mindanao,” he added.

(This LPA has a low chance of developing into a tropical cyclone and is expected to enter PAR today and may move near the eastern section of Mindanao.)

Sunday weather forecast

The trough of the LPA will cause overcast skies with scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over the Davao and Soccsksargen regions.

Meanwhile, the southwest monsoon or “habagat” will trigger scattered rain showers and thunderstorms in Zambales, Bataan, Occidental Mindoro, and Palawan.

“Sa kasalukuyan, habagat pa rin po ang umiiral dito po sa may western section ng Luzon at Visayas,” said Duran.

(Currently, the “habagat” is  prevails in the western section of Luzon and Visayas.)

The rest of the country, including Metro Manila, will have partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers or thunderstorms due to localized thunderstorms.

Meantime, no gale warning was raised over the country’s seaboards.

Duran, however, cautioned individuals venturing out to sea in the western sections of Luzon and Visayas to watch out for waves which may reach up to 2.5 meters.
