Negros Occidental’s COVID-19 cases rise to 30
BACOLOD CITY –– COVID-19 cases in Negros Occidental hit 30 on Thursday, May 26, after the daily figures dropped to single digits and zero starting April.
Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson said Dr. Ernell Tumimbang, Provincial Health Officer, was conducting an investigation on the rise in numbers, and wanted a retest on those who tested positive.
“Health authorities had been saying that cases could go up two weeks after the campaign period and election day,” Lacson noted.
Lacson said he hoped the new numbers did not indicate that the COVID-19 cases would rise again.
Tumimbang said they aim to vaccinate 666,363 residents against COVID-19 in June to hit 100 percent of Negros Occidental’s target population.
The province had vaccinated 1,331,410 residents against COVID-19, or 63.45 percent of its target population.
Ten new COVID-19 cases were recorded on Thursday in Bacolod, the Department of Health reported.
