BANGKOK – At least 40 people were injured, including three seriously, when a train ploughed into a truck in southern Thailand on Sunday, local police said.

The six-wheeled vehicle carrying road surfacing material was hit as it crossed train tracks at a road intersection in Surat Thani province, police at the scene told AFP.

Two drivers in the train and the truck driver were left seriously injured, while around 40 passengers were lightly hurt.

Police said there was no barrier at the crossing, adding the cause of the accident was not yet known.
