Active COVID-19 cases in Quezon down to 1

LUCENA CITY––Quezon province has only one remaining active COVID-19 case as of Thursday, May 5, health authorities said.

The latest data from the Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO) showed that the lone COVID-19 patient is in Gumaca town.

According to the IPHO, a virus-infected patient in the island town of Polillo had recovered from the disease. The province recorded no fatalities.

At least two cities and 38 municipalities in the province are already COVID-19-free. Those previously infected in the localities have either recovered or died, the IPHO report showed.

Last month, the number of new COVID-19 cases dropped to 21 from 88 in March and 772 in February.

In January, the IPHO recorded 4,130 cases during the height of the highly infectious Omicron variant.

The recorded cases in January are the second-highest monthly tally in recent months, topped by 5,343 cases in September last year at the height of the Delta variant.

Lucena City, the capital of the province, and the towns of Dolores, Candelaria, and San Antonio have been placed under alert level 1, the most lenient in a five-tier alert status until May 15.

The rest of the province will remain under alert level 2 during the same period.

Gov. Danilo Suarez urged unvaccinated residents to get their jabs for their safety and the protection of the community as he asked the public to remain vigilant in the battle against COVID-19.

As of Thursday, Quezon has recorded 32,861 COVID-19 cases, 31,300 recoveries, and 1,560 deaths. INQ
