/ 12:03 AM June 18, 2011

CITY OF SAN FERNANDO—A fire gutted a building of the Department of Public Works and Highways’ Central Luzon office in Barangay Sindalan here on Thursday. No one was reported hurt in the fire but DPWH officials said office equipment, furniture and personnel files kept in the single-story building of the regional equipment services (RES) were destroyed.

Nestor Dayao, RES chief, said DPWH lost at least P50 million from the fire that broke out at 4:20 a.m. The building was built in 1982, he said.

The fire also destroyed administrative, accounting and planning files, said Ador Canlas, DPWH assistant regional director. Raymond Manimbo, San Fernando fire marshal, said investigators have yet to establish the cause of the fire.  Tonette Orejas, Inquirer Central Luzon
