Malabon fire kills 3-year-old girl

/ 11:01 PM March 07, 2012

A 3-year-old girl died in a fire Tuesday afternoon in Malabon City, which investigators said might have been caused by an electric fan that overheated.

The city’s fire marshal, Chief Inspector Rodrigo Reyes, said the baby was asleep when the blaze started at 3:55 p.m. in Sitio 6, Barangay Catmon. “It was too late when the baby girl’s relatives found out that she was still inside one of the houses,” Reyes explained.

Some 40 families were left homeless by the fire that spread from the second floor of the house of one Jennlyn Makubo. Authorities have pegged the damage to property at P500,000.—Kristine Felisse Mangunay
