MANILA, Philippines — Public Attorney’s Office (PAO) Chief Persida Acosta on Wednesday warned the public to watch out for scammers using her name as a reference while asking for loans.

Acosta said she announced this after receiving calls and messages from loaning institutions which are now charging her for the debts made by the scammers.

“Para sa kaalaman po ng publiko, wala pong kinalaman ang inyong lingkod sa mga hinahabol na may utang dahil wala naman po akong pahintulot o basbas na gamitin nila ang pangalan ko sa kanilang aplikasyon at HINDI ko po sila kilala,” said Acosta in a public announcement through her Facebook page.

(For the information of the public, I have nothing to do with the claimants who are in debt because they do not have my permission or blessing to use my name in their application and I do not know them.)

“Nagsasabi ako sa inyo mga loan agencies, lending institutions, huwag po kayo maniwala. Hindi ko po sila comaker hindi rin po ako guarantor nila, kaya kung ‘yan po ay scammers huwag po kayong maniniwala,” said Acosta.
