MANILA, Philippines — The remaining disqualification cases against presidential candidate Ferdinand Marcos Jr. will be settled within April, said the Commission on Elections (Comelec) on Thursday.

Citing Comelec Chairman Saidamen Balt Pangarungan, Commissioner George Garcia said that the disqualification cases will be resolved within the second week of April at the earliest, or the third week of the month at the latest.

“Month of April per Chair (Pangarungan). Di po kasi ako nag-participate. Earliest 2nd week of April. Latest 3rd week,” he said in a Viber message to INQUIRER.net.

Garcia also said that he did not participate in the discussion, as Marcos was a former client of his, which required him to inhibit himself from previous clients’ cases.

With this, the resolution on Marcos’ disqualification cases will come less than a month before the national and local elections itself which will be held on May 9.

Decisions on the cases may be appealed to the Supreme Court, but is not possible without a Comelec en banc judgment.
