Over 5.1 million doses of Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine arrive in PH

MANILA, Philippines — Over 5.1 million doses of US-made Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine were delivered to the Philippines on Monday. 

First, a total of 3,999,060 doses arrived at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport at around 12 p.m., according to a livestream of state-run PTV.

These were donated by the US government through the World Health Organization-led initiative COVAX facility.

Then another batch of doses, totaling 1,167,600, arrived at the NAIA Terminal 3 at around  9:45 p.m.

This shipment was procured by the government, according to the National Task Force against COVID-19.

On Monday, Secretary Carlito Galvez Jr. said a total of 232 million COVID-19 vaccine doses had been delivered to the Philippines since 2021, 136 million of which had already been administered.

So far, the Philippines has 63.6 million fully vaccinated adult individuals, some 10.5 million of who have already received their booster dose.

The government has also fully vaccinated 8.5 million minors aged 12 to 17 while over 900,000 children 5 to 11 years old have received their first dose of the vaccine.

Galvez lamented, however, that the number of boosted individuals was still low.
