Areas under granular lockdown in PH drop to 489
MANILA, Philippines — The number of areas under granular lockdown nationwide has decreased to 489, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said Saturday.
This was a decline from the previous 1,036 areas under lockdown as of January 30.
“As of February 4 bumaba na po ang areas under granular lockdown. Nasa 489 na lang po ang total number of areas na nasa granular lockdown,” PNP spokesperson Police Col. Jean Fajardo said at the Laging Handa public briefing.
(The number of areas under granular lockdown has decreased as of February 4. There are only 489 areas under lockdown.)
According to Fajardo, the majority or 391 of the areas under granular lockdown are in Cordillera region, followed by 81 in Cagayan Valley.

Article continues after this advertisementUnder the COVID-19 alert level system, granular lockdowns are localized community lockdowns—be it a street or an entire condominium—where residents will not be allowed to constantly go in and out of their homes for at least 14 days.
The decrease in the number of areas under granular lockdown comes as health authorities report lower numbers of new COVID-19 cases in the country.
