MANILA, Philippines — Some 71 percent of Department of Education (DepEd) teaching and non-teaching personnel, and 64 percent of students age 12 to 17 without comorbidities are now fully vaccinated against COVID-19, the agency’s officials reported on Friday.

DepEd Director for Bureau of Learner Support Services Lope Santos, in his presentation during an online briefing, said that there are a total of 970,694 teaching and non teaching personnel under the department.

On the other hand, 18.74 percent or 181,932 have not been vaccinated yet.

Santos, however, noted that the DepEd data indicated that adding the total number of vaccinated and unvaccinated personnel will yield at 102.65 percent.

“Discrepancies have been observed in the submitted data,” Santos said in his presentation.

Possible reasons for the discrepancy could be that the total eligible population have not been updated based on the actual number of personnel who reported their vaccination status, and even possible double reporting, according to Santos.

DepEd chief of School Health Division Maria Corazon Dumlao, in a separate presentation, said that 76 percent of 11,465,786 of 12-17 years old students without comorbidities have received COVID-19 vaccines.

Of that total, 7,342,978 or 64 percent are fully vaccinated while 1,393,736 or 12.16 percent have only received a single vaccine shot, according to Dumlao.
