Lowest since January 5: PH logs 15,789 cases — DOH

MANILA, Philippines — The Philippines on Wednesday recorded a total of 15,789 cases of COVID-19 — the lowest daily infections in three weeks — which brought the total caseload to 3,475,293, the Department of Health (DOH) reported.

Wednesday’s caseload was the lowest since January 5, when the country logged 10,775 cases.

Of the total number of cases, 230,420 cases or 6.6 percent of all infections are still tagged as “active cases” but most of them have either mild or no symptoms at 97.9 percent. The mild cases count is at 218,711 while asymptomatic patients are 6,902.

Most or 95 percent of cases occurred within the recent 14 days (January 13 – January 26) with Region 4-A topping the total number of infections with 2,248 or 15 percent of the cases, while Metro Manila is a close second with 2,135 or 14 percent of Wednesday’s cases.

There are 32,712 recoveries which pushed the recovery total to 3,191,219.

Death toll is now at 53,664 after 66 new patients were reported to have succumbed to the new coronavirus.

Of the 66 deaths, 65 occurred in January, and the other one occurred in August.

Meanwhile, 142 duplicates were removed from the total case count including 80 recoveries, while 10 cases that were previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation.

All labs were operational on January 24 but three laboratories were not able to submit their data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System. Based on data in the last 14 days, the 3 labs contribute, on average, 0.1% of samples tested and 0.1% of positive individuals.

Meanwhile, the global COVID-19 caseload is now at 358.6 million, including 5.6 million deaths, according to Johns Hopkins University Case Tracker.
