4.2 quake hits Negros Oriental

MANILA, Philippines—A 4.2 magnitude earthquake hit Negros Oriental Wednesday morning, state volcanologists said.

The tectonic earthquake, occurred one kilometer southeast of Tayasan, Negros Oriental at 5:13 a.m., the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology said.

The mild quake struck a depth of nine kilometers, it said.

It was felt in Tayasan at Intensity IV;  Guihulngan City and Bindoy, Kabankalan City in Negros Occidental; and Ayungan at Intensity III, it added.

No damage or injuries were reported although aftershocks were expected, said Phivolcs.

A 6.9 magnitude earthquake hit Central Visayas including Negros Oriental February 6, which left 57 people dead, and 60 people still missing. The quake affected more than 300,000 families.
