Pagasa: Storm signal No. 3 lifted in the Visayas but remains in parts of Palawan
MANILA, Philippines — Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal (TCWS) No. 3 due to Typhoon Odette was lifted in the Visayas but remains hoisted in the northern portion of Palawan on Friday afternoon, according to the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa).
According to Pagasa’s tropical cyclone bulletin issued at 2 p.m., Typhoon Odette maintains its strength with maximum sustained winds of 155 kilometers per hour (kph) and gustiness of 215 kph. Moving westward at 25 kph, the center of the typhoon was last located 130 kilometers southwest of Cuyo, Palawan, or 155 km east northeast of Puerto Princesa City, Palawan.
Pagasa said Typhoon Odette is forecast to make landfall in the vicinity of the northern or central portion of Palawan this afternoon, re-emerge over the West Philippine Sea this evening, and pass in the vicinity of Kalayaan Islands on Saturday. The typhoon is expected to exit the Philippine area of responsibility on Saturday morning or early afternoon.
“Odette may still see some slight weakening until it crosses Palawan, but it is forecast to remain as a typhoon. Re-intensification is likely once Odette emerges over the West Philippine Sea. However, continuous weakening may ensue beginning Sunday as the typhoon becomes exposed to increasing vertical wind shear and the surge of the Northeast Monsoon,” the state weather bureau said.
TCWS No. 3 is still raised in the northern portion of Palawan (El Nido, Taytay, Araceli, Dumaran, Roxas, San Vicente, Puerto Princesa City) including Cagayancillo and the Cuyo Islands, which means that destructive typhoon-force winds are prevailing or expected within 18 hours in these areas.
