Tropical depression outside PAR now a tropical storm
MANILA, Philippines — The tropical depression expected to enter the Philippine Area of Responsibility (PAR) has intensified into a tropical storm, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration reported Tuesday.
Pagasa said Tropical Storm Nyatoh (international name) was located 1,455 kilometers east of Visayas as of 11 a.m. It remains outside the PAR.
Nyatoh has maximum sustained winds of 65 kilometers per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 80 kph, the state weather bureau added.
It is moving west northwest and may enter PAR on Wednesday afternoon or evening. Once inside the PAR, the storm will be named “Odette” and is expected to immediately make an exit within 24 hours of entry, Pagasa said.
“This tropical cyclone is less likely to affect the prevailing weather condition in the country for the next 3 to 5 days,” Pagasa said.
