Cop, civilian shoot each other in Taguig, land in hospital

MANILA, PhilippineS—A police officer was in critical condition after being shot several times in Taguig City Wednesday, a police spokesperson said.

Citing a sketchy report from the Taguig City police, Southern Police District spokesperson Jenny Tecson said that both Police Officer 1 Venerando Pantino of the National Capital Region Police Office and the suspect, Crisdel Manansala, were rushed to the Taguig Pateros Hospital after they shot each other along Bayabas St., Western Bicutan, Taguig City at 6 p.m.

Still citing the police report, Tecson said that Manansala had a companion during the shooting incident, who escaped with the suspect’s gun.

Police were hunting down the suspect’s companion, said Tecson, who could not provide more details on the case as follow-up operations were ongoing.

Investigation was also underway to determine what drove them to shoot each other, Tecson said.
