EU, BARMM to launch P1.5B peace, development program
MANILA, Philippines — The Delegation of the European Union to the Philippines and the Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (BARMM) will soon launch a P1.5-billion program that aims to promote peace and development in the region.
The collaboration, dubbed as the “Support to Bangsamoro Transition (SUBATRA) Programme,” will be launched on Nov. 15. It is expected to run for five years.
“The..SUBATRA Programme aims to help BARMM lay the foundation for lasting peace and development in the region by strengthening the capacities of its institutions to establish an enabling democratic governance environment during the transition period,” the EU delegation said in an emailed statement on Friday.
It added that EU Ambassador Luc Véron will meet up with BARMM local officials and humanitarian groups in his first visit to Mindanao next week.
He described the visit as a “reaffirmation of the commitment of the EU in the peace process and development in Mindanao through an inclusive and comprehensive approach.”
