Active COVID-19 cases in PH drop to 29,000 with 2,646 new cases

MANILA, Philippines — Active COVID-19 cases in the country dropped to below 30,000 on Wednesday even as the Department of Health (DOH) confirmed another 2,646 cases of COVID-19.

According to DOH, the 29,138 active cases are just one percent of all the 2,809,311 total confirmed cases of the disease. Of the active cases, 60.8 percent are mild, 7 percent are asymptomatic, 17.38 percent are moderate, 10.4 percent are severe, and 4.4 percent are critical.

Meanwhile, the DOH also logged 4,029 recoveries and 99 more deaths. There are now a total of 2,735,508 patients who have recovered and 44,665 fatalities.

The DOH said 4.3 percent of 35,772 individuals who were tested were found positive for COVID-19 on Monday.

On hospitalization, 42 percent of intensive care unit beds, 32 percent of isolation beds, and 24 percent of ward beds and ventilators are currently being used.

Twenty-nine duplicate entries were removed from the total case count, while 84 recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation.

Seven testing laboratories were not able to submit their data on time. The non-reporting laboratories contributed an average of 15.2 percent of samples tested and 5.1 percent of positive individuals in the last 14 days, according to DOH.
