Nueva Ecija village chair gunned down while watering plants

JAEN, Nueva Ecija––Unidentified gunmen shot and killed Friday a village chairman in this town while he was at the boundary arc of Barangay Lambakin, police said.

Investigators said Zoilo de Belen, 56, suffered multiple gunshot wounds to his body and died on the spot.

Witnesses said De Belen was watering plants when the assailants, who were on board a black sedan, approached him and shot him several times.

A relative said the victim had no known enemies. Police have yet to determine the motive behind the attack, according to Major Baltazar Corpuz, municipal police chief.

Mayor Sylvia Austria condemned the killing and urged the police to help the victim’s family get justice. INQ
