Special probe task group to be formed for slain journalist Dinoy — media security task force

MANILA, Philippines — A special investigation task group (SITG) will be formed to probe the killing of reporter and anchor Orlando “Dondon” Dinoy, Presidential Task Force on Media Security Executive Director Undersecretary Joel Egco said on Monday.

“Ngayon po magkakaroon na ng special investigation task group Dinoy. So, itong provincial director ay magfo-form nga ng SITG at ito pong SITG ay sila po ang magre-report sa amin,” Egco said on Teleradyo’s On the Spot.

(Now, we’re going to have a special investigation task group Dinoy. The provincial director will form an SITG that will report to us.)

“Kami ‘yung nakatutok naman diyan sa Malacañang every step of the way kung mayroon silang makakaligtaan na puntahan [o] may kulang na information. So, ganun po, that’s how it works. Tina-triangulate natin lahat — family, kaibigan, pulis, kami,” he explained.

In a message to INQUIRER.net, Egco said the SITG will be activated “anytime soon” and it will be chaired by the provincial director.

So far, Egco said that there are positive developments on the case.

“I hope in the near future, probably, ay magkaroon na po ng (we will have a) breakthrough dito (here). Hopefully, hopefully. There are positive developments, I’m sorry, I cannot share right now,” Egco said during the interview.

Dinoy, who worked for a local publication and a broadcast station and a former correspondent of the Philippine Daily Inquirer, was shot in his apartment in Bansalan, Davao del Sur on October 30.
