Sen. Estrada’s advice to House panel after voting to impeach SC associate justice

MANILA, Philippines – Senator Jose “Jinggoy” Estrada offered this advice to the House of Representatives who voted to impeach Supreme Court Associate Justice Mariano del Castillo: “Why don’t they impeach all the impeachable officers.”

Estrada’s statement came after the House justice committee voted 38 to 10 with no abstention to impeach Del Castillo for plagiarism.

Estrada said that the Senate would be overloaded if the impeachment complaint against Del Castillo would be elevated to the Senate.

And Estrada added one more advice: “Maybe sa susunod na cases, ayusin naman nila ang charges, ang articles of impeachment.”

Asked what could be expected at the resumption of the impeachment trial on Chief Justice Renato Corona on Wednesday after Senate President Juan Ponce Enrile disallowed the testimony of one of the prosecution witnesses for Article 3 of the Articles of Impeachment, Estrada said that they would have to see whether they would continue taking on the same charge or move on to Article 7 for which Justice Secretary Leila de Lima has already been subpoenaed.”
