DAVAO CITY––Mayor Sara Duterte said she “continues to listen to the pulse of the Filipino people” amid persistent calls for her to run for president in 2022 and supporters getting giddy about her plans as the filing for candidacy opens Friday, Oct. 1.

Duterte’s camp made the statement through her spokesperson, Liloan, Cebu Mayor Christina Garcia-Frasco, in light of the release of a Pulse Asia survey result showing her as the top pick for president.

Pulse Asia said Duterte was the most preferred candidate for president, with 20 percent of Filipino adults expressing support for her, during the survey period Sept. 6 to 11.

Frasco said the result of the Pulse Asia survey “reflects the people’s desire for stable leadership in these uncertain times.”

“Owing to Mayor Sara’s stellar track record of performance as mayor of Davao, and her courage and conviction as a leader, who always puts the people’s needs first, the people see in Mayor Sara the president that we need and the president that we can trust,” Frasco added.

Frasco said Duterte was thankful for those who continued to urge her and believed that “she deserves to be our next president.”

Duterte will go on leave for a medical trip abroad from Oct. 5 to 8.

Meanwhile, a nascent political party accredited on Sept. 27 has endorsed Duterte for the country’s top post.

The Partido Pilipino sa Pagbabago, spearheaded by businessman Leonardo Fernandez, said they were joining the call and would be among those who would await her filing of candidacy for president.
