COVID-19 hits 13,846 more, raising PH's active cases to 132,139

MANILA, Philippines — Some 132,139 people in the country were still sick because of COVID-19 after the Department of Health (DOH) reported an additional 13,846 infections on Tuesday.

But according to the health agency, the low number of new cases reported was due to lower laboratory output last Sunday, September 26.

The DOH said the 132,139 active cases were 5.2 percent of the total 2,522,965 confirmed cases of the disease since the pandemic hit the country last year.

The DOH also said it has recorded 39,980 more patients who have recovered from the viral illness, raising the number of COVID-19 survivors to 2,522,965. On the other hand, 91 patients have died and boosted the death toll to 37,686 as of September 28. Death cases account for 1.51 percent of the total COVID-19 tally.

On positivity rate, the DOH said 24.1 percent of 47,430 individuals tested were found positive for the virus on Sunday. Seven testing laboratories were not able to submit their data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System. The non-reporting labs contributed 1.3 percent of samples tested and 1.7 percent of positive individuals in the last 14 days, according to the health department.

The DOH further reported the removal of 58 duplicates, including 40 recoveries and one death, from the total case count, as well as the reclassification of 37 cases that were previously tagged as recoveries to deaths after final validation.
