PNP creates new task force vs illegal recruiters
The Philippine National Police has created a unit that would focus on hunting down illegal recruiters preying on outbound Filipino workers. Gen. Guillermo Eleazar, chief of the PNP, said on Friday that he signed a memorandum circular putting into operation the PNP Task Force Against Illegal Recruitment to “analyze and aggressively initiate police operations against the modus operandi of illegal recruiters in coordination with other law enforcement agencies.” President Duterte insisted on a new unit despite the existence of the Presidential Task Force Against Illegal Recruitment (PTFAIR) headed by the Department of Justice. The PTFAIR was first created in 2004 by then President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo. —Dexter Cabalza
