Pampanga’s capital city logs 105 COVID-19 cases in single day tally

MABALACAT CITY, Pampanga – The capital city of Pampanga province San Fernando recorded 105 new COVID-19 cases in a single day, bringing its active cases to 939, the city government disclosed on Saturday (August 14).

From August 1 to 14, the city recorded 784 new cases, a trend the city government described as an unprecedented here and a major cause for concern.

Saying the surge is possibly being caused by the Delta variant, the city government has advised residents to use double face masks or N95 masks when they go outside of their residences.

“The local government asks everyone to abide by the minimum health standards and remain home if you do not have an important thing to do outside,” it added.

On Saturday, the capital city also recorded 20 new recoveries and a single death who was a resident of Baliti village.

The city has registered a total of 6,897 COVID-19 cases since the pandemic began last year. Of these, 5,727 have recovered while 213 have died.

Meanwhile, Mabalacat City recorded 34 new COVID-19 cases, 41 recoveries and three deaths on Saturday. The fatalities include two residents of Dapdap village and another from Mawaque Resettlement Center.

The city has registered 4,853 total cases since the onset of the pandemic last year. Of these, 4,245 have recovered, 147 have died, and 461 remain as active cases.

Pampanga is currently under modified general community quarantine with heightened restrictions and has been enforcing strict border controls since August 2.

Residents from Metro Manila and other provinces are required to have current negative results of reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction or antigen tests before they can enter the province.
