Couple killed in Rizal

MANILA, Philippines—A married couple was killed Thursday after a gunman strafed their home in Rizal Province, police said Friday.

Chief Superintendent James Melad, Calabarzon Police Director, said that Edwin and Melinda Flores were killed after their home at Block 17, Phase 1B Sub Urban, Barangay (village) San Jose, Rodriguez, Rizal were fired at by a male suspect for a still unknown reason around 7:30 p.m. Thursday

Investigation showed that Edwin was in front of their house when the gunman fired several shots at him, Melad said. Melinda, on the other hand, was killed after being hit by a stray bullet while she was taking a bath.

The suspect fled after the incident leaving 17 fired cartridge from a caliber 5.56 riffle at the crime scene, he said, adding that further investigation was underway to determine the motive behind the killing and for possible identification and arrest of the suspect.

The bodies of the couple were brought to Antipolo Funeral Homes.
