Gov’t troops recover explosives in Sorsogon clash

LEGAZPI CITY—Government troops recovered explosives and bullets for a high-powered firearm after a clash Tuesday with suspected New People’s Army guerrillas in Bulan town in Sorsogon province.

Captain John Paul Belleza, Philippine Army’s 9th Infantry Division public affairs chief, said the police, 22nd Infantry Battalion, and 903rd Infantry Brigade encountered the rebels in Barangay Padre Diaz at 8:50 a.m.

Belleza said they were on pursuit operations following an armed encounter in a nearby village last July 31, where an unidentified rebel died.

Authorities recovered Molotov bombs, four magazines loaded with bullets for an  M14 rifle, and a bandolier.
