DOH reports 5,828 more COVID-19 cases; active count now 50,526

MANILA, Philippines — The number of new COVID-19 cases in the country was at 5,828 on Thursday as the Department of Health (DOH) reports more local cases of the Delta variant.
Active cases in the country are now at 50,562 out of the 1,530,266 confirmed cases of COVID-19 since the pandemic began.
However, the DOH said the new cases reported may not have updated data entries.
“Due to technical issues encountered in COVID Kaya and the manual solution implemented as a contingency measure, cases reported today may not have up-to-date data entries in certain fields (e.g. health status, residence, quarantine status),” the department noted.
“The issue is currently being investigated and a resolution is expected in the next few days. Rest assured that the DOH is exerting all efforts to update the cases as soon as possible,” it added.
Meanwhile, the health agency also recorded 3,257 more recoveries, raising the recovery count to 1,452,813. Seventeen more deaths were logged, raising the death toll to 26,891.
According to DOH, 12 percent of 47,869 people who were tested were found positive for coronavirus on Tuesday.
All laboratories were operational on Tuesday but five were not able to submit their data on time. Based on data in the last 14 days, the five non-reporting labs contribute, on average, 0.3 percent of samples tested and 0.4 percent of positive individuals.
Meanwhile, 11 duplicates, including eight recoveries, were removed from the total case count. Fifteen cases that were previously tagged as recoveries were likewise reclassified as deaths after final validation.
The country has so far confirmed a total of 47 cases of the highly transmissible Delta variant that was first detected in India and is being blamed for the surge in cases in many nations.
Of this number, 23 were detected locally and the rest are from returning overseas Filipinos. Eight cases are still active.
