Soldier, 2 militias slain in NPA attack in Eastern Samar
TACLOBAN CITY—A soldier and two civilian militias died Wednesday when suspected New People’s Army (NPA) members attacked them in Jipapad town, Eastern Samar.
Initial reports from the 8th Infantry Division based in Catbalogan City, Samar, said close to 60 rebels attacked at past 6 a.m. government forces on their way to Sitio Casapa, Barangay 4.
The government troops were able to retaliate, but the rebels threw improvised explosive devices at them.
This resulted in the death of one soldier and two personnel of the Civilian Armed Force Geographical Unit (Cafgu).
Six other Cafgu personnel were wounded during the attack and immediately brought to a hospital for medical treatment.
The 8th ID has yet to reveal the identities of the fatalities.
