Nueva Ecija farmer slain in gun attack; another survives hacking

CABANATUAN CITY—A 51-year-old farmer was gunned down, and another survived hacking in separate incidents Sunday in Nueva Ecija province, police said.

Investigators said Fred Corpuz of Barangay Bibiclat in Aliaga town succumbed to multiple bullet wounds during the attack at 5:55 a.m.

The police said a neighbor found Corpuz, who was reportedly headed to his farm, lying dead on the ground.

Investigators have yet to establish the identities of the assailants as well as the motive behind the killing.

In San Jose City, Antonio Maravilla, 45, of Barangay Tayabo, was reportedly attacked around 8 a.m. with a bolo by a fellow farmer identified as Rodolfo Tablizo, 60.

The victim suffered wounds to his nape and left arm, the police said.

Maravilla was brought to the San Jose City General Hospital for treatment.

The suspect was arrested and would be charged with attempted homicide, police said.
