5 suspected NPA rebels, sympathizer surrender in Isabela — Army

SAN MARIANO, Isabela — Five suspected New People’s Army rebels and a militiaman surrendered with their weapons to the Philippine Army’s 95th Infantry Battalion and police on Thursday here, a belated military report said on Saturday.

The rebels were identified only by their aliases and former units. The report identified Ka Onyok, 25, Squad Uno team leader; Ka Eugene, 55, Squad Tres team leader; Ka Jun-jun, 30; Ka Jeffrey, 24; Ka Jeffrey, 30; and Ka Merson, 30, all New People’s Army rebels belonging to the Regional Sentro De Gravidad (RSDG)-Komiteng Rehiyon-Cagayan Valley (KR-CV), and Ka Bad Boy, 56, a sympathizer and alleged member of the Militia ng Bayan in the province.

The alleged rebels surrendered an M-653 rifle, an M-14 rifle and two M-16 rifles, a caliber .38 revolver, 12 improvised explosive devices (IEDs), five magazines for an M-14 rifle, 100 rounds of 7.62 bullets, and a bandolier.

Major General Laurence Mina, 5th Infantry Division commander, lauded the rebel returnees “for taking the right decision to give up armed struggle and embrace the opportunity to live a peaceful and meaningful life with their loved ones.”
