New COVID-19 cases in Eastern Visayas drops to 80
TACLOBAN CITY — Daily COVID-19 cases in Eastern Visayas dropped on Tuesday, June 22.
The Department of Health (DOH) in the region reported only 80 new COVID-19 cases, the lowest since it recorded 71 cases on May 31.
For several weeks, Eastern Visayas logged more than a hundred cases of COVID-19 infections..
Despite the decrease in COVID-19 cases, the DOH appealed to the public to always observe all the minimum health protocols as a way to contain the further spread of the disease that has already claimed 370 lives in the region.
Dr. Exuperia Sabalberino, officer-in-charge of the DOH-Eastern Visayas, said their office will be ramping up the rollout of the vaccines to help curb the infection in the region.
As of January, 33,189 doses have been administered across the region of which 11,974 were done for the second dose.
Article continues after this advertisementOn Tuesday, Ormoc City in Leyte became the first recipient of the Pfizer vaccine in the region, receiving 195 vials which is good for 1,170 doses.
Article continues after this advertisement“This marks another milestone for the intensified vaccination activities in the region and gives a promising reinforcement to the vaccination program and advocacy efforts in Eastern Visayas,” said the DOH in a statement.
Eastern Visayas currently has 2,769 active COVID-19 cases.
