DOH reports 158 new COVID-19 deaths; total death count now 23,121
MANILA, Philippines — The Department of Health (DOH) reported on Wednesday an additional 158 deaths due to COVID-19, raising the fatality count to 23,121.
According to the DOH, the deaths account for 1.73 percent of all the 1.33 million confirmed COVID-19 cases in the country. Of this number, 56,170 cases remain active.
The latest data from the DOH showed that of the active cases, 1.9 percent are severe and 1.3 percent are critical or are at a higher risk of death.
Based on previous case bulletins from the Health Department, a total of 933 COVID-19 deaths has been reported from June 10 to 16, or an average of 133 additional deaths per day.
Meanwhile, 1,033 deaths were recorded from June 3 to 9, or an average of 147 deaths per day.
Article continues after this advertisementDOH Epidemiology Bureau OIC-Director Alethea de Guzman said on Tuesday that there is a decline in the country’s COVID-19 deaths for the month of June.
She said the country reported a total of 720 deaths from June 1 to 14 with a daily death average of 51 cases. She noted that this is much lower than the May 2021 total of 3,000 deaths or an average of 97 deaths daily.
