Cabbie shot
A taxi carrying a pregnant woman in labor rammed into a tree after its driver was shot and wounded by a motorcycle-riding assailant in barangay Bulacao, Cebu City.
The woman and her two companions were unharmed.
But the driver, Antonio Fernandez of D’Voyager taxi was critically wounded with a shot to the head.
Police said they don’t know the motive of the attack yet.
The attack occurred past 1 a.m. on the way to Vicente Sotto Memorial Medical Center where the woman, who came from Minglanilla town, was due to give birth.
Police said the taxi had its hazard lights on while traversing the Cebu South Road. When the D’Voyager taxi reached barangay Bulacao, a motorcycle cut into its path.
Article continues after this advertisementThe driver honked the taxi horn repeatedly to get through and was about to overtake the motorcycle when its driver fired at him.
Article continues after this advertisementA wounded Fernandez lost control of the wheel, causing the taxi to ram a tree at the side of the road.
Fernandez was rushed to the Cebu City Medical Center. The pregnant woman was brought to the St. Anthony’s Mother and Child Hospital where she later gave birth.
