DAVAO CITY — Mayor Sara Duterte confirmed she met with former Senator—and defeated vice presidential candidate—Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos and his sister Senator Imee Marcos over lunch here yesterday.

Duterte’s picture with the Marcos’ siblings and several others made the rounds on social media, fueling speculations among her supporters here of a possible Duterte-Marcos tandem in the upcoming 2022 elections.

The mayor, however, did not say what she and the Marcos’ siblings talked about during the meeting.

“I confirm the picture taken yesterday here in Davao City,” she said in a statement released through the city information office. “I would like to thank Senator Imee and former Senator Bongbong Marcos for their birthday greetings, and my husband for the lunch he hosted.”

Supporters have been drumming up their “Run, Sara, Run” campaign but it was not clear whether the Davao City mayor who earlier repeatedly insisted she was not running for President had indeed changed her mind.
