Olongapo City grapples with rising COVID-19 deaths

OLONGAPO CITY — Three new deaths related to COVID-19 were recorded here on Saturday (May 29), raising to 96 its current death toll, an official said.

Citing local health data, Mayor Rolen Paulino Jr. said the latest to succumb to the disease were all men aged 49, 63, and 72.

The city has been logging COVID-19 fatalities for nine straight days now, and most of them were elderly patients with comorbidities.

Paulino said new infections also continued to increase with 26 additional cases on the same day, pushing the active infections to 256.

To date, the city has logged 1,967 COVID-19 cases since last year but 1,611 of these had already been cleared from the disease.
