MANILA, Philippines — The low-pressure area (LPA) east of the country has dissipated as of Wednesday, although state meteorologists expect the intertropical convergence zone (ITCZ) to continue affecting southern parts of Mindanao.

Weather reports from the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said that Mindanao and Visayas may still experience isolated rains, with thunderstorms being more intense in Mindanao due to the ITCZ.

For Luzon and other parts of the country, the easterlies or warm winds from the Pacific Ocean would continue bringing hot and humid weather, which can also result into short and isolated thunderstorms.

As of posting, no LPA was seen near the country, although one outside the Philippine area of responsibility — approximately 2,505 kilometers east of Mindanao — is being observed by the weather bureau.

“Sa kasalukuyan po ay wala pang consensus ang ating mga weather models kung ang sama ng panahon na ito ay mananatiling LPA or magde-develop bilang isang bagyo,” weather specialist Ariel Rojas said.

(As of now there is no consensus among weather models if this weather disturbance would remain an LPA or develop into a tropical cyclone.)

“Pero patuloy nating babantayan ang sama ng panahon na ito kaya manatili pong naka-antabay para sa updates na ilalabas ng Pagasa ukol sa LPA na ito,” he added.

(But we would continuously monitor this weather disturbance so we advise people to continue monitoring Pagasa’s updates about this LPA.)

Due to the easterlies, temperatures over Luzon would still be high, with Metro Manila experiencing around 26 to 35 degrees Celsius, Tuguegarao with 26 to 39 degrees, Laoag with 25 to 33 degrees, Legazpi with 26 to 33 degrees, and Puerto Princesa with 26 to 32 degrees.

Temperatures would also start to increase in Visayas and Mindanao: 25 to 32 degrees for Tacloban and Cebu, 26 to 32 degrees for Iloilo, 23 to 33 degrees for Zamboanga, 25 to 31 degrees for Cagayan de Oro, and 24 to 32 degrees for Davao City.

No gale warning has been raised, but sea condition for the whole eastern seaboard plus waters north of Luzon would be moderate.  The rest of the country’s seas would have a slight to moderate condition.
