Suspected rebel couple slain in Camarines Norte firefight
LEGAZPI CITY –– A couple suspected to be communist rebels were killed after engaging police in a firefight in Capalonga town in Camarines Norte province on Sunday morning, the police said in a report Monday.
Major Maria Luisa Calubaquib, Bicol police spokesperson, said while the government troops were approaching the house of Noeme Marca and his wife, Lourdes, to serve a search warrant for illegal possession of firearms, an undetermined number of armed men fired upon them in Barangay San Antonio around 2:30 a.m.
A 15-minute firefight ensued that led to the death of the couple.
The report said their comrades escaped in different directions.
Calubaquib said Lourdes was the secretary of Sangay ng Partido sa Lokalidad (Party Branch in the Locality) under a certain “Ka Ding.”
Recovered were 20 live bullets for caliber 5.56 gun, two improvised explosive devices, five detonating fuses, detonating cord, and several spent bullets.
