Security guard nabbed in Isabela for extortion while posing as cop

TUMAUINI, Isabela — A 31-year-old security guard was arrested here after he reportedly tried to extort money from a trader while posing as a police officer, the police said on Sunday (May 2).

The suspect was identified as Joemar Calara who was caught accepting P5,000 in marked cash during an entrapment operation in Barangay Cumabao on Friday (April 30).

Maj. Rolando Gatan, Tumauini police chief, said Calara also yielded a homemade shotgun, a hand grenade, three bullets, a sachet of dried marijuana leaves, and other drug paraphernalia.

Gatan said Calara introduced himself to his victim as Police Officer Jay Tamang of the police’s Regional Intelligence Unit.

He was charged with robbery through extortion, illegal possession of firearms and ammunition, and violation of the anti-drug law. INQ
