CEBU CITY – At least 14 members of cause-oriented groups in this city are facing charges for allegedly violating quarantine protocols on Labor Day.

The groups, which were composed of workers and urban poor communities, were on board a bus on their way to the Fuente Osmeña Circle to attend a rally on Saturday morning when they were arrested by police officers for not observing the physical distancing rule.

According to Jaime Paglinawan, chairman of AMA-Sugbo-KMU and Bayan Central Visayas, the arrested protesters are currently detained at the Barangay Cogon Ramos gymnasium.

The groups believe the arrests were primarily made to prevent them from joining the Labor Day activities.
