10 COVID-19 patients die in Quezon province in a day

LUCENA CITY –– Ten more coronavirus disease (COVID-19) patients died in Quezon on Wednesday, the highest single-day death toll in the province, health officials said.

The Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO) reported on April 21 that three confirmed virus carriers in Lucban town and two in Candelaria. town succumbed to the dreaded illness.

The IPHO also disclosed that five more COVID-19 patients in Lucena City, Tayabas City, and Pagbilao, Lopez, and Atimonan towns also died of the disease.

The COVID-19 death toll in the province now stood at 369.

The IPHO records show that 84 COVID-19 patients died from April 1 to April 21, or an average of four fatalities daily. Last month, the province recorded only 28 deaths.

As of April 21, Quezon, under general community quarantine until April 30, has recorded 9,769 COVID-19 cases since March last year, 1,057 of which are still active.

Lucena topped the list with 145 active cases, a big jump from the seven active cases on March 7.

The alarming spike in the number of new cases prompted city authorities to implement a 5 a.m. to 6 p.m. hours at the public market.

Market authorities also ordered a “one entry, one exit point” policy to help curb the rise of COVID-19 cases in this city.

Of the 41 towns in Quezon, only Buenavista, General Luna, and San Narciso have no active cases as of April 21. INQ
