San Juan City expecting more AstraZeneca COVID vaccines by June, July

MANILA, Philippines – Some 100,000 doses of AstraZeneca’s Covid-19 vaccines purchased by the San Juan City local government are expected to arrive by June or July, Mayor Francis Zamora said Tuesday.

“Please note that we have ordered 100,000 does of AstraZeneca using our local funds and we expect these to arrive by June or July,” Zamora said in an interview onABS-CBN News Channel.

As of April 12, Zamora said 8,222 residents have been vaccinated, including 2,443 persons with comorbidities and 1,609 senior citizens.  The rest are medical frontliners and the health care workers.

Zamora added that the city vaccinates an average of 600 to 800 individuals a day and these numbers could increase once the fresh supply of vaccines arrive.

“One challenge really is the vaccine supply. So right now, we have run out of AstraZeneca that is why yesterday we started vaccinating our senior citizens with Sinovac,” he added.

Zamora, citing the 2015 census, said San Juan City has around 122,000 residents. The city is aiming to inoculate 70 percent or 85,400 San Juaneños.
