Northeasterly winds forecast to bring light rain to Luzon

MANILA, Philippines — Cloudy skies and light rain are forecast over Luzon due to the northeasterly windflow, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical, and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said Wednesday.

Pagasa said in its 24-hour forecast that due to the northeasterly windflow, cloudy skies with scattered rain showers would prevail over Batanes and Babuyan Islands, with no major effects.

Metro Manila and the rest of Luzon will similarly experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with scattered light rain showers as a result of the weather disturbance.

Meanwhile, Visayas and Mindanao will experience partly cloudy to cloudy skies with isolated rain showers due to locally caused thunderstorms.

During extreme thunderstorms, Pagasa warned of the possibility of flash flooding or landslides.

Over Luzon, winds from the northeast will be moderate to heavy, accompanied by moderate to rough seas.

The Visayas, meanwhile, will have light to moderate winds in the northeast direction and slight to moderate coastal waters.

Pagasa said Mindanao will likewise experience light to moderate winds from northeast to east and slight to moderate coastal conditions.

The low-pressure area that the weather bureau is monitoring was last spotted at 720 kilometers east of Hinatuan, Surigao del Sur.

Pagasa recorded a minimum temperature of 24.0°C at 5 a.m. and a maximum temperature of 31.4°C at 3 p.m. at the weather station at the Science Garden, Diliman, Quezon City.
