COVID-19 death toll in Quezon hits 283 as cases rise
LUCENA CITY – The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) death toll in Quezon increased to 283 following the recent demise of two more patients, local health authorities said on Tuesday.
In its 5 p.m. bulletin on March 30, the Integrated Provincial Health Office (IPHO) reported that two confirmed virus carriers in the town of Pitogo and Tayabas City succumbed to COVID-19.
Quezon, which is still under modified general community quarantine, has so far logged 8,002 COVID-19 cases (7,240 recoveries, 479 active cases. )
From March 1 to 30, a total of 742 new COVID-19 cases have been recorded, compared to only 342 in February.
Dr. Grace Santiago, IPHO head, attributed the rising number of new cases to the blatant disregard of COVID-19 health and safety protocols.
She also noted the rise of new cases among family members was partly contributed by the holding of gatherings and social events.
