OSG seeks more time to respond to petitions vs. Anti-Terrorism Act
MANILA, Philippines — State lawyers have again asked the Supreme Court to give them another 30 days to answer the joint plea of the petitioners opposing the Anti-Terrorism Act, further postponing the high tribunal’s action on various injunctive petitions against the highly contested law.
In its latest motion for extension, the Office of the Solicitor General (OSG) requested the 15-member tribunal to move the deadline for its filing of comment to the petitioners’ pleading to April 23.
The magistrates earlier granted the Solicitor General’s two appeals that allowed the state lawyers to submit until March 24 its reply to the petitions seeking to immediately suspend the implementation of Republic Act No. 11479, or the Anti-Terrorism Act of 2020.
It said it could not file its reply on time since it was still conferring with the state agencies and public officials named as respondents in the case.
