BIR urged to extend deadline for filing returns

/ 04:48 AM March 31, 2021

MANILA, Philippines — The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR) should extend the deadline for the filing of income tax returns to May 31 after Metro Manila and four other provinces were placed anew on enhanced community quarantine.

Rep. Bernadette Herrera on Tuesday said the BIR could cite the Bayanihan 1 law, which authorized the extension of statutory deadlines due to the pandemic.

“Considering how [Metro Manila], Cavite, Laguna, Bulacan and Rizal are now [in lockdown], I also prod the BIR to extend to May 31, 2021, the deadline for the filing of income tax returns for those who file their forms in person at the BIR offices instead of online or through the banks,” Herrera said in a statement.

The BIR has set the deadline for filing of returns and payment of taxes on April 15.
