Teodoro said that in January this year, the city only had 112 cases. By March, however,  the number of cases increased to 277 and eventually to nearly 1,500.

“We could see that it has increased almost ten-fold the number that we have prior the start of the month. We are being overwhelmed and we’re struggling to do aggressive and proactive contact tracing, isolation,” Teodoro said.

He assured that the city government has measures in place to control the spread of the virus such as reverse isolation.

Active COVID-19 cases in the Philippines are approaching the 100,000-mark as the Department of Health (DOH) reported a new record-high 8,773 additional cases on Thursday.

According to DOH, the recorded new infections pushed nationwide active cases to a record-high 99,891 as of March 25, following the detection of more transmissible SARS-CoV-2 variants –as the country’s total case count reached 693,048 since the pandemic reached Philippine shores in 2020.
